1. Prior to entry, test the atmosphere with calibrated and controlled equipment.
2. Ensure the oxygen level is between 19.5%- 23.4% concentration, the flammable gasses or vapors are below 10% of the lower explosive level (LEL), and use mechanical ventilation to correct atmospheric problems.
3. Identify the trained and competent employees for each key role (supervisor, lifeguard and worker).
4. Check that the emergency equipment is available and in place on the workstation.
5. Ensure the permanent presence of the supervisor designated for the confined space.
6. Use communication equipment adapted before entering the confined space.
7. Obtain a work permit to enter the confined space.
8. Enter the confined space only if you are trained and authorized.
9. Enter the confined space with a gas detector.
10. Clearly identify each confined space with a danger sign.
